MANCHENTON NETS GAME-WINNER IN CLOSING MINUTES AS CARLSBAD HOLDS OFF PRINCETON 7-6

CORONADO, Calif. -- Carlsbad outscored Princeton 3-1 in the third period to buidl a 6-3 lead entering the final six minutes of play as the squad held on for a 7-6 victory in the women's 18-and-under bracket at the 2010 National State Challenge.

Tied 2-2 after a period of play, Carlsbad fell behind 3-2 on a score by Madison Andres with 4:08 left in the third period. The squad pulled even 44 seconds later when Julia Ingersoll connected on a man-up chance at 3:24 before Caylin King netted a man-up score of her own at 2:09 to put Carlsbad in front to stay.

Casey Reid and Makena Magro finished off the period's scoring with natural and man-up goals at 1:18 and eight seconds, respectively, for a 6-3 lead with one period to play.

Princeton attempted to climb back into the contest as Andres, Hannah Cross and Sophia Monaghan struck for natural goals at 5:46, 2:06 and 41 seconds, but Dulcie Manchenton tallied the deciding-score for Carlsbad at 3:09 as the team held on for the 7-6 victory.
