There are two types of competitions sponsored by American Water Polo and they differ according to the level of support provided.

AWP Affiliated Competition

Any AWP registered coach, club, or organization may coordinate a tournament, camp, or league in their area. These competitions can be found by clicking here. American Water Polo provides the following support for these activities:

• Game ball
• Score sheets
• Membership Forms
• Pre-addressed return envelope for on-site membership registration
• Administrative assistance in planning and organizing the event
• Tournament formats
• Assignment of officials
• Provision of training materials for local desk officials
• Advertisement of entry openings for competition on AWP web site
• Insurance coverage for athletes, spectators, officials, and coaches

Although AWP membership is not required, hosts should ensure that all participants, coaches, and officials are adequately insured either through AWP or some other entity. It is the host club’s responsibility to ensure this policy is followed or risk exposure in the event of a lawsuit. AWP recommends that all participants be required to show proof of insurance before they are permitted to compete.

Member clubs or coaches organizing an affiliated event must register with the AWP office at least 21 days prior to the first date of competition to receive the support listed. Event registrations received after this date will be supported to the best of our ability. Cost of registration for each event is $25.

All hosts processing AWP athlete registrations from individuals that are not members of their own clubs will receive $4 per membership (not applicable for scholastic and limited memberships). Hosts must submit all registration fees and forms within seven days of the initial date of competition to be eligible.

Any AWP member may register an event. Registration can be handled online using your credit card, or a registration form may be downloaded and returned with a check. All events must be registered at least 21 days prior to the first date of competition to ensure adequate time for the assignment of officials.

All athletes, coaches, and officials must be members of American Water Polo in order to be eligible for participation.
