CORONADO, Calif. -- Ellis O’Connor scored four times, while Anna Horskotte and Cheyenne Montijo tacked on hat-tricks to account for 10 of their team’s goals as Illinois-North Beach picked up a 12-1 victory over California-Coronado in the girls’ 18-and-under bracket of the 2010 National State Challenge.

North Beach never trailed in the game and opened up a 6-0 lead with 3:26 left in the second period. Coronado broke the ice at the 1:31 mark on a successful shot by Mackenzie Wiley, but Horskotte punched in a goal with 1:05 left in the first half to give North Beach a 7-1 lead at intermission.

The margin expanded to 11-1 by the end of the third period as North Beach rolled to the 11-goal victory.

Mary Molitor and Yasi Nassiri chipped in solo scores to account for North Beach’s other two goals.
