NAVY-AC MANAGES GREATER SAN DIEGO 10-4 CORONADO, Calif. – Navy-AC used a five-goal outburst in the first period for all it would need in defeating Greater San Diego 10-4 in the girls' 18-and-under division at the 2010 National State Challege. The star of the game was Leigh Auth who connected on pairs of goals in the first and third periods to lead all scorers. Lily Doerfler added a pair of goals, while Mackenzie Edwards chipped in a hat-trick with three markers. Francis del Valle completes Navy's scorers as she tacked on a solo score in the fourth period. Auth and Mckenzie started the scoring as the duo connected on shots at 4:37 and 4:20 before Greater San Diego's Vanessa de los Reyes split the difference with a marker at 4:07 to set the scoreboard at 2-1. Navy closed out the period with back-to-back-to-back scores as Auth (3:04, penalty shot), Doerfler (1:36) and Edwards (00:01) beat the goalie for a 5-1 lead after six minutes of play. San Diego attempted to climb back into the game with a score by Shelby Cunningham (2:27), but Doerfler responded for Navy at 2:07 to set the score at 6-2 at halftime. The four goal lead was too much for Greater San Diego to overcome as Navy added to the margin with three goals in the third period and another in the fourth to take the six goal lead.
