HAWAII-IOLANI DOUBLES-UP PITTSBURGH 8-4

CORONADO, Calif. – Chris Nichols scored four goals to account for the margin-of-victory as Hawaii-Iolani defeated the Pittsburgh-Tigers 8-4 in the boys' 18-and-under division at the 2010 National State Challenge.

Tied 1-1 after a period of play, Hawaii pulled away in the second period as David Lim (4:09) and Nichols (3:04) connected on natural goals before Lim zipped in a penalty shot with 14 seconds for a 4-1 Hawaii lead.

Dom Caputo found the back of the cage at 3:23 of the third period to halve the margin, but Nichols completed a hat-trick with 14 seconds left in the third frame to keep the islanders in front 5-2 and tally the game-winner.

The lead grew to 6-2 in the opening minutes of the fourth period as Jacob Butters punched home a score at 5:34. Hawaii's lead and defense down the stretch were enough to keep Pittsburgh at arm's length as Hawaii steamed to the four goal win.
