GREATER PHILADELPHIA DOUBLES UP NORTH BEACH 15-7

CORONADO, Calif. – Mathew del Rio scored four teams, while Tim Greer and Chase Hamilton buried pairs of markers as Greater Philadelphia picked up a 15-7 victory over Illinois-North Beach in the boys’ 18-and-under bracket at the 2010 National State Challenge.

Leading 8-4 at halftime, Navy never saw its lead dwindle below four goals for an exchange of tallies to open the third period.

Greer put his team up by five with 3:21 remaining in the period before del Rio and Hamilton struck for additional scores at 2:11 and 1:02, respectively, to hand Navy a nearly insurmountable 12-5 lead heading into the fourth period.

Following a strike by North Beach’s Jake Eaton to open the final frame at the 5:35 mark, Hamilton and Greer answered with rockets from the wings at 5:16 and 3:34, respectively, to make it 14-6.

Eaton added another marker at 2:27 to slice the Navy advantage to seven goals before Tyler Sauder closed out the damage with a goal at the 1:13 mark for the 15-7 final.
