NORTH BEACH STOPS CORONADO 7-2 FOR SEVENTH PLACE IN GIRLS' NATIONAL STATE CHALLENGE BRACKET

CORONADO, Calif. – Isabelle Baneux and Cheyenne Montijo both scored two goals to lead North Beach to a 7-2 victory over Coronado in the girls' 18-and-under bracket at the National State Challenge sponsored by American Water Polo.

North Beach jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period as Baneux scored a man-up goal at 5:26 and Erika Nothnagel added an even-strength marker at 4:45.

Coronado cut the lead to one with 4:33 in the second period as Kendall Hoshko pumped and fired a shot which drew nothing but net. However, North Beach began to pull away with a marker by Mary Molitor (3:15) and consecutive strikes by Montijo (00:53, 00:07) made it 5-1 at halftime.

The margin expanded to 6-1 with 4:41 left in the third period with another North Beach goal, but Coronado stayed within striking distance thanks to a score from the hand of Paige Forrester with 1:08 showing on the clock to set the score at 6-2.

Baneux's second goal of the contest at the 5:03 mark of the fourth period closed out the game as neither team could find the back of the cage again for the 7-2 final score.
