PRINCETON HANGS ON FOR 6-5 VICTORY OVER NORTH BEACH

CORONADO, Calif. – Down 3-1 in the opening minutes of the second period, Princeton scored five consecutive goals over the remainder of the second and third periods to build a three goal lead and hang on for a 6-4 win over Illinois-North Beach in the girls' 18-and-under bracket at the 2010 National State Challenge.

Trailing 3-1 at the end of the first period, Princeton cut into the deficit with 4:35 left in the first half as Annam Iyer finished on a man-up chance to make it 3-2. Sophia Monaghan knotted the score at the 2:26 mark before Madison Andres gave the Tigers the lead at 4-3 as the squads went to their benches for halftime.

Princeton's offensive surge continued in the third period as Hannah Cross converted on a man-up chance at the 5:16 mark and Andres netted a natural goal at 2:26 for a 6-3 lead.

North Beach attempted to climb back into the game with scores by Anna Horskotte (4:46) and Isabelle Baneux (2:19), but the Tigers' defense stiffened to hold onto the one goal victory.
