PITTSBURGH EARNS SPOT IN FIFTH PLACE GAME WITH 16-3 VICTORY OVER CORONADO

CORONADO, Calif. – Mike Magdic scored seven goals as Pittsburgh overpowered Coronado 16-3 to earn a place in the fifth place game of the 2010 National State Challenge boys' 18-and-under division.

Magdic posted four goals in the first period (3:35, 1:36, 00:57, 00:14) to account for 80% of Pitt's total in the period as the Pennsylvania natives jumped out to a 5-0 lead through six minutes of play.

Rob Clinger scored with 3:56 left in the second period to make it 6-0 before the squad's traded goals to the halftime horn for a 7-1 Pittsburgh lead at intermission.

Ther margin expanded to 11-1 in the third period as Pittsburgh's lead was too much for Coronado to overcome.

Overall, three players posted hat-tricks in the game as Zach Presto and Clinger joined Magdic in leading Pittsburgh to its second victory of the tournament.

Pittsburgh will wrap-up its participation in the National State Challenge on Sunday, July 25 at 11:00 a.m. in the fifth place game against Annapolis. Coronado will compete in the seventh place game at 9:00 a.m. against North Beach.
