PITTSBURGH MANAGES MARYLAND-ANNAPOLIS 9-5

CORONADO, Calif. – Rob Clinger scored five times and Zach Presto added a hat-trick as the Pittsburgh Tigers stopped Maryland-Annapolis 9-5 to clinch the No. 3 position in Bracket B and a berth in the consolation semifinal of the boyr's 18-and-under bracket at the 2010 National State Challenge.

Pittsburgh will face Coronado at 2:00 p.m. later today, while Annapolis will take on Ilinois-North Beach at 1:00 p.m. with the victors advancing to the fifith place game on Sunday, July 25 at 11:00 a.m.

Leading 3-1 at halftime, the Tigers pushed the margin to three goals at 6-3 by the end of the third period as Presto (5:41) and Clinger (3:41, 2:57) netted even-strength markers, while Annapolis received a pair of tallies from Konrad Karandy (4:41, 00:07) for a 6-3 game after 18-minutes of play.

Annapolis was able to move to within a pair of strikes with 2:55 left in the fourth period as Peter Doetsch found the back of the cage with a shot, but Clinger answered for the Tigers with another scoring-blast at 1:29. Following a goal by Karandy to complete his team best three scores in the game, Pittsburgh closed out the contest with a tallies by Presto (00:56) and Clinger (00:02) for the four goal victory and a date with Coronado later in the afternoon.
